WHAT IS OIL PAINTING?

Oil paints are made from pigments and an oil-based binder, like linseed or safflower oil. Oil paint dries slowly, through a process called siccativation. The paint slowly hardens when in contact with oxygen.

This unique characteristic allows the painter to take all the time they need to mix colours. Freeing them to rework their painting for several days until they have achieved the blend, shape and style they want.

Xavier de Langlais Egg Medium Matt

Xavier de Langlais egg medium adds smoothness to the oil, accelerates the setting process, and allows for superimposed effects. It also gives the colours a glossy or matt appearance, depending on the dosage. 4 to 5 drops for a glossy finish, 8 to 10 drops for a matte finish. It is very important to shake well before use. Xavier de Langlais’ highly original recipe is derived from the Tempera technique used by Italian primitive painters.
